How to Import My Existing Simulation into the IDE?

Option 1: Importing the Project

If you already have an Eclipse project set up (.project, .cproject, and .oppbuildspec files in the project root directory), you can simply import the project into the workspace.

Choose File|Import from the menu:

and select Existing Project in the dialog:

Then click next, and go through the wizard. On the next page you will be asked for the project location, fill it in. When you click Finish, the project should appear in the workspace.

Option 2: Creating a Fresh Project

If there is no Eclipse project yet, you need to create one in the directory of your simulation. (Alternatively, you can create an empty project somewhere else, and then copy your files into it, using the command line or your external file manager.)

Choose File|New OMNeT++ Project from the menu:

This menu item is only visible in the Simulation Perspective. If you are in some other perspective, switch to Simulation Perspective, or go via the File|New Project... menu item, and choose New OMNeT++ Project on the first page of the wizard dialog that comes up.

The current perspective is displayed on the right-hand side of the toolbar, and there you can switch perspectives as well:

The first page of the project creation wizard allow you to specify a name and location for your project:

Then you can choose some initial content. If you already have files in the project directory, play it safe and choose Empty Project, to avoid accidentally overwriting existing files with the same name. (The wizard will NOT delete any existing files from the project directory.)

After that, you will be asked to select the C++ toolchain and configurations; you can just leave the defaults.

After finishing the wizard, the new project should appear in the Project Explorer. You should be able to look into it, open files, and so on.
